The 1474th birthday anniversary [Eid Milad-un-Nabi] of the Beloved Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) was celebrated with great honor and pride on the 14th and 15th of June, 2000 in Mauritius. The Sunni Razvi Society International under the distinguished patronage of His Eminence Hazrat Maulana Ibrahim Khushtar Siddiqui Qadiri Razvi organized this great event and invitation cards were published and distributed throughout the island.

On Wednesday 14th June, at 3:30 pm His Eminence performed the ceremonial and sacred bath (ghusl) of the Holy Hairs [tabarukkat (objects filled with baraka or grace; sacred relics)] of our beloved Master, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) with Holy Zam Zam water in his room in the presence of some disciples (murids). It must be noted that His Eminence has requested that two blessed and sacred Holy Hairs of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) be placed in his grave (kabr) on each eyelid during he departure to the hereafter.

His Eminence took all precaution to avoid any spillage of the Holy water and thus a special dish was placed on the floor. After the Ghusl, the Bal Mubarak (tabarukkat) was placed in the Sunni Razvi Academy on a desk for murids to perform Ziyarat. The Holy water was then distributed to all that were present on the occasion of the 363rd monthly Gyarween Shareef of Ghaus-ul-Azam Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (may Allah be pleased with him) by a murid specially delegated by His Eminence. The program started after Magrib prayers, comprising of Quranic recitals, Naat Shareef, a brief speech by His Eminence, Salaam and Duah, and the Holy Bal Mubarak. Afterwards dinner was served.

On Thursday 15th June, from 4:40am until Fajr prayers an assembly of worshippers gathered at the Sunni Razvi Academy and after the yearly special Milad-un-Nabi (Allah bless him and give him peace) celebration, the salaam of Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (may Allah be pleased with him) was chanted with full honor, respect and fervor at Subh-u-Saadiq, that is, the exact time of the birth of the beloved Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace).

A million salutations on the Light of Guidance

It must be mentioned that both the night and moon were ashamed to welcome the beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) and that is why he was born at subh-u-saadiq, at a time when the night completely retires and the moon starts making its entry.

At 9am a great procession and parade from across all corners of the island of Mauritius in creatively decorated cars, trucks and busses waving flags and hooting starting their way towards the Sunni Razvi Academy, which was beautifully decorated for this splendid occasion.

The procession started with hundreds of motorcycles followed by a special sports utility vehicle whereon was seated His Eminence Maulana Ibrahim Khushtar Siddiqui Qadiri Razvi, and the procession departed towards the Eid-Gah. On both sides of the route Muslims gathered to wave flags and cheer the procession. This reminded some of the historical crowd that gathered at Taher Bagh to celebrated Eid-Milad-un-Nabi some 34 years ago under the distinguished patronage of His Eminence. The Eid-Gah was beautifully decorated and was attended by a huge crowd, as on Milad-un-Nabi Muslims are entitled to 'special time off'. The first and second floor was reserved for woman and packed to capacity and the Eid-Gah (open prayer place) was packed with men. The program began with Quran recitals, Naat Shareef, and a speech by Maulana Jameel, Maulana Haroon and finally by His Eminence. The celebration ended with a Salaat-o-Salaam, Duah and Fateha by His Eminence.
