The Spiritual purpose of Charity

The spirit of generosity builds a Pathway to Almighty Allah, for it is an expression towards a wider horizon. It is not necessary that the spending of money always show the spirit of generosity. Generosity is an attitude and shows in every little action that we do for people whom we come into contact with in our everyday life. A person might not have a single coin to his name, and yet he can be generous and noble. Life in the world offers every opportunity, whatever be his position in life, to show his spirit of generosity.

The venerable Sayyiduna Hazrat Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (may his soul be sanctified), remarked the generosity of faithful lovers is such that they keep nothing for themselves, neither the reputation of being good nor the hope of a reward in the hereafter. For the one who takes this Path has lost even his own existence. He is in a state of total bankruptcy, for he is truly generous. Our Master, the Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) says, "the one who has spent all he has and does not hope to have anything is in the care of Almighty Allah in this world and in the hereafter". Another benefit of charity is its cleansing effect. It cleanses ones property and it cleanses ones being. If ones being are cleansed of egotistical attributes, the spiritual purpose of charity is accomplished. To separate oneself from a little portion of what one thinks is ones own brings manifold rewards in the hereafter. Charity ‘the beautiful gift’ is a good deed, a portion of what you have received, both material and spiritual. Give it, for Allah sake, to Allah’s servants. Even though manifold rewards are promised, do not do it for the return. Give all gifts and charity by care, love, and compassion and not as a favor, expecting thanks, making the recipient feel under obligation, indebted or grateful.

His Eminence had traveled the world with an earnest desire to rally the Muslim masses under one banner, the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat. He has thus dedicated more than three decades of constant and active service and the Sunni Razvi Society International has been a standing fortress for 35 years against alien destructive forces that are detrimental to the pristine form of true Islam. In his spirit of sacrifice and the continuous struggle, our founder-patron and president, knows no bounds. The Sunni Razvi Society is a religious non-profit organization and by the grace of Almighty Allah and the Masters of the Path, the society has managed from its inception in1965 to strengthen and contribute to the character building of the Islamic community. With the building of Academies, Khanqah’s (building used for spiritual retreat and training), Eidgah’s, Zikr Manzils, Mosques, pre-primary schools, libraries and the publication of books, booklets, pamphlets, magazines and other manuals, the Society has shed spiritual light to many seekers around the world.

What is our duty, then? Should we remain arms folded and act as mere observers or should we join this sincere effort of caring for the spiritual well-being of our brethren and our Spiritual Guide? We must learn to be awakened to this Truth and be of service according to our capacity. The use of wealth can be compared as a gateway to man’s heart; it is either closed or open. When he holds a thing and says, ‘This is mine,’ he closes the door to his heart; but when he shares his goods with others and says, ‘This is yours as well as mine,’ this opens his heart. ‘The one, who earned and used what he has earned, had gained. The one who earned and collected, and departed, has lost, says the poet Sa’di. We learn from this that it is not only important to earn money; it is of greater importance to know how to use it. There are many in this world that possess wealth and yet are unhappy; they cannot profit by it themselves, nor can they benefit anyone else. The one who earns money and keeps it in the safe is not the possessor of that money; he is the gatekeeper of his treasure. Generosity is the charity of the heart and shows the attitude of a person.

May Almighty Allah be pleased with You.
