Merits in Reciting Salawaat [Durood Shareef]

The merits that accrue to the one who recites Durood Shareef are numerous and they are mentioned in countless traditions, but only one of them is being related here which we can get an idea of the merits we derive in this world and in the Hereafter.

Hazrat Obay Ibne Ka’ab (may Allah be pleases with him) said that he went to see the beloved Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) and told him that he wanted to send Durood Shareef as many times as possible on the beloved Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). He asked how much time he should allocate for this. Thereupon the beloved Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) replied that it was his discretion but if he could allocate some more reciting Salawaat that it would be better for him.

Then Hz. Obay (may Allah be pleases with him) said:

"I shall devote half of my time to reciting Salawaat". The beloved Prophet replied:

"As you like, but if you can do more, it would be better for you."

To this Hz. Ibne Kaab (may Allah be pleases with him) replied: "I shall devote two-thirds of my time to the recital of Durood Shareef."

The beloved Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) answered: "It is up to you, but if you can do more, that would be better for you." "Then", said Hz. Ibne Kaab (may Allah be pleases with him), "I shall devote the whole of my time for the recitation of Durood Shareef." To this the beloved Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) replied: "If you can do this, all your desires, be they spiritual or material, will be realized and all your sins (physical or moral) will be wiped away."

Note: A lover in Tariqat has the discretion to perform his Wazeefa at a fixed time or simply to recite Durood Shareef, Kalima Tayyeba, Quran Shareef or to meditate on his Spiritual Guide. By the grace of Almighty Allah he will derive tremendous benefits.

[One should recite the Durood Shareef as much as possible. The recital of the Durood Shareef gains immense Baraka for the reciter. The seekers of truth should also remember this, that if they do not have the time to recite the Wazifas, then they should continue reciting the Durood Shareef in abundance.]

The devil reclines (lounges) on the heart of the son of Adam (AS), when he remembers Almighty Allah, the devil retraces; and when he is heedless (neglectful) he whispers evil.
