Things to Remember

This information was issued under the distinguished patronage and immediate presence of His Eminence  during his visit to Mauritius in 1965.

Oh Brother! Bear in mind the fact that at the time of your birth everybody was rejoicing while you were lamenting. Live such a life that when you die everybody weeps on your departure from this worldly life while you are smiling. If you always wholeheartedly think of Your Creator with devotion, love and enthusiastic zeal, then when you are on the verge of departing this world, you will remember your Lord and your heart will be illuminated with light of Almighty Allah.

Oh Brother! Remember the promise you made to Almighty Allah on giving your hand in the hand of this wretched creature of Almighty Allah (bayat). In addition, pray for this humble servant too so that he may lead his life in accordance with the Islamic law and that he may die in the state of a true believer.

Oh Brother! You have given word that you will stand firm in the religion of our Saints and our elders and that you will protect yourself against bad teachings and detrimental principles. Never fail to keep your promise. Remember also the saying of our Creator: "Laa tamoo tuna illa wa anthum Muslimoon" (Die not except as Muslims)

Oh Brother! Remember that you have promised to offer your prayers, to observe your fasts and to perform the entire Divine commands in their proper time…and that you will avoid sins. May Almighty Allah help you keep your promise because it is a grievous fault to make a promise even though it was made to a most humble creature? Haven’t you made this promise with Almighty Allah.

Oh Brother! Always remember your death. If you constantly bring to your mind the fact that you would die one day, you will, by the grace of Almighty Allah abstain from bad deeds and your faith will be safe.

Oh Brother! Keep awake today so that you may enjoy a peaceful rest after your death and…so that the angels may tell you: "Nam kanau matil uroos" (Sleep like a newly-wed)

Keep awake underneath the sky, for you will sleep till doomsday in the lap of the earth. Don’t enslave yourself with this world because this will make you forget Almighty Allah.
