Maulana Ayub Razvi Qadiri

He was a versatile teacher having as main objective the propagation of true message of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat as prescribed by the teachings of the great genius, the reformer of Islam, Alahazrat Imam Ahmad Raza khan (may Allah be pleased with him). He also went on numerous religious tours in most of the countries where His Eminence is active. It should be mentioned here that Maulana Ayub, from childhood to his last days, shaped his life according to the advice of His Eminence and followed him like his shadow to Bareilly, Bangladesh, Lailpur, Lahore and finally Mauritius.

His heart rendering recital of the Holy Quran, his magical praiseworthy voice, his brilliant speeches, his Naat and Tilawat, good character and wonderful personality caught the imagination of the entire island. His recitation and teaching of the Naat-e-Rasul Sallahu Alaihi Wassalam enabled the youth in Mauritius to acquire the skill in this field. In this manner the entire island resounded with teachings of Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (may Allah be pleased with him). His efforts in meeting and interfacing with Ulema of the Ahle Sunnat and mystical savants were done in a very sincere manner. His organizational capacity and Aqeeda was very evident, thus he was a capable Director of the Sunni Razvi Society.

When His Eminence left Mauritius in 1972, Maulana Ayub went through a real test of character, as he had to bear full responsibility of the Sunni Razvi Society in a particular adverse environment. This was a particular difficult time as forces of evil from both inside and outside wanted the Society to deviate from its original objectives and to ultimately close down. But Maulana Ayub Razvi, for thirty years, stood up to any challenges and with the help from his Spiritual mentors helped maintain the Sunni Razvi Society and keep its objectives in its original track.

As Director of the Society, he had the responsibility of organizing and directing (when his Eminence was absent) all major functions such as the weekly Qadiri Halqa Zikrs, monthy Igyarween Shareef, Annual Urs Ghaus-ul-Azam, Urs Kwaja Moinuddin Chishti, Urs Alahazrat, Yaum-e-Ashura, Meraj Shareef, etc. In the field of administration and management he personally paid attention to every detail from cleaning to decoration, from repairs to renovation. During the directorship of Maulana Ayub Razvi all the above celebrations and functions were kept alive without stop. With his constant efforts and struggle, the Sunni Razvi Society has remained a citadel for the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat`s beliefs. Furthermore during the last 30 years the, the Society has made tremendous progress in Mauritius with the creation of successful institutions such as the Khanqah Alia Qadiria Razvia, the Qadiri Razvi Central Mosque, the Zikr Manzil and the Sunni Razvi Eid Gah. Friends, helpers and well-wishers of the Society always remember him as cheerful, soft hearted and a heart of gold filled with generosity.

For the Razvi family he was always prepared to make any sacrifice. During the stay of Hazrat Maulana Reyhaan Raza Rehmani Mian (may Allah be pleased with him) in Mauritius, he served him in such a benefiting manner that upon his departure he honored the late Maulana whilst praying for him in the following couplet:

With your blessing and mercy O Allah

Millions of Salutations on Ayub Razvi

This dua, due to the favor of Imam Ahmad Raza (may Allah be pleased with him) has become embellished in memory forever. The Sunni Razvi Society became the Aastana (spiritual abode) for him and for the (Ahle Sunnat) religious leaders and Maulana Ayub Razvi’s residence became their home. Maulana Akhtar Raza Khan Azhari also resided here during his visit to Mauritius and Maulana Tawseef Raza Khan was a regular visitor.

Some of the lessons and advice Mualana Ayub Razvi kept repeating during his life were:

  1. Never make any concession regarding questions on Imaan and Aqeeda

  2. Love the beloved Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and Awliya (Saints of Allah) is the base of Islam and the only Way of Salvation

  3. Love for Almighty Allah’s sake and hate for Almighty Allah’s sake

  4. Be steadfast on the Right Path and be constant

  5. Protect yourself from ‘thieves’ of Imaan because if you loose your Imaan, it is very difficult to get it back again

The family of Maulana Ayub Razvi is also involved with the Sunni Razvi Society. His dearly beloved wife, the respected Begum Ayub Razvi organizes educational woman’s programs on Fridays and on special ‘big’ Islamic nights. His son Hafiz Azfar Razvi has graduated as Hafiz and has been reading Taraweeh prayers for the last few years. He is also destined and trained to shoulder much more responsibilities in the very near future.

All his life he suffered with agony, but amongst his he had a ready smile. He shunned publicity and remained far from name and fame. He was appreciative of both close friends and total strangers. In the last stage of his life he became continuously very sick. Through Divine Decree his life of steadfast patience came to an end amidst the sound of recital of Khatme Qadiria.

In September 1994, he started the regular recital of Wazifa Khatme Qadiria Kabir at his residence on a weekly basis and it is a special blessing of Hazrat Ghuas-ul-Azam that when he passed away, the wazifa was being recited. Through his efforts the Khatme Qadiria Kabeer was spread all over Mauritius and is now recited in the UK and South Africa where it was introduced by His Eminence, Maulana Khushtar. On the 11th March 2000, the 288th weekly Khatme Qadria was held in Mauritius; a demonstration of the continuation of the wonderful work started by him. Another great blessing of Hazrat Sayyiduna Ghaus-ul-Azam is that before Namaaz Janaza, a chaadar (veil) from the Maazar of the Sultan Awliya of Jilan, which his Eminence brought back to Mauritius in 1974, was placed on the ‘Jawaaza’ of Maulana Ayub Razvi and the poem written by His Eminence on the same chaadar was recited.

On Sunday 24 Zil Haj 1419 (11th April 1999) at 8:20pm while Khatme Qadiria Kabir was being recited at his residence, Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Ayub Razvi, Director of the Sunni Razvi Society Mauritius, left this world after a long illness. The departure of this great luminary for the hereafter is indeed a very big loss for the Sunni Razvi Society in particular and for the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat at large. His life and devotion for the cause of Islam and his gigantic works under the aegis of the Sunni Razvi Society is a source of inspiration for those who want to live as a true servant of Islam and die with Imaan. We pray the Almighty Allah with the wasila of the beloved Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) to show his choicest blessings on the Mazaar (tomb) of Maulana Ayb Razvi. This couplet from the Naat of Alahazrat (may Allah be pleased with him) was his longing for his last journey and the funeral procession started with this Naat.

"Fountains of light enrapture you until the day of resurrection,

When the blessed presence will manifest itself in the grave".

According to his long cherished desire the Society acquired a new Sunni Razvi Kabrastan (cemetery) at Terre Rouge, one week prior to his demise, built on a plot of land donated by the long serving chairman of the Society, Haji Ibrahim Ramtoola. Also a few hours after his departure from this world the Government of Mauritius also granted permission for burial. On that very day this Mujahid Ahle Sunnat Maulana Muhammad Ayub Razvi was buried in this very cemetery. Hazrat Maulana Ayub Razvi was buried at 4pm with the echoes of Zikr and Naat Shareef. Maulana Ayub was the father of three children, two sons and one daughter

Namaaz Janaaza was lead by Maulana Abdul Hamid Razvi, Imam of the Qadiri Razvi Central Mosque, who started his studies at the Sunni Razvi Academy with Maulana Ayub Razvi as his first teacher. The Namaaz Janaaza was attended by a big gathering of friends, well-wishers, Imams and Ulemas. Amongst others were Maulana Shamin Azhari Khateeb of the Jummah Mosque and Maulana Haroon Assen, Khateeb of the Shaane Rasool Mosque.

What shocking news: Ayub has left us all

Leaving his sons, daughter, wife and friends

He has made his abode in Jannat-ul-Firdaus

Cementing his connection with Mustapha , Ghaus-e-Azam  and Alahazrat

How would I say that Ayub has departed?

My helper, my companion, my beloved in no more

He has always remained a Razvi to the core

And was such a Sunni that was loved by every Sunni
