Anthem as a gift to the Nation of Mauritius

The Sunni Razvi Society International has much pleasure to offer to the Nation a poem written by His Eminence on the occasion of the accession of Mauritius to the status of Republic.

We wish to recall here that His Eminence wrote also a poem on the Independence of Mauritius 24 years ago.

Readers will no doubt appreciate the high sense of patriotism underlying every line of the poet in his anthem on the Republic of Mauritius. May we all therefore be imbibed with such a dedication to the progress and achievements of our country - Souvenir Magazine, April 1992, Shawwal 1412.

Behold our Motherland Behold

It's a flower that blooms in the Indian Ocean,

It's the pride of the garden itself,

It's soil brings forth gold and its stones are like rubies of Yemen.

It pours forth rivers that recall Ganga Jamna,

Here valleys and mountains sing melodies,

Behold our Motherland! Behold!

Villagers and town-dwellers enjoy freedom alike,

Everyone expresses himself freely.

The lamp of hope does burn here,

The country has attained a new glory,

It's people are all brothers and sisters,

Behold our Motherland! Behold!

It's green meadows smell cane juice,

In this garden humming bees and ants are all merry,

Each year adds more beauty to it's charm.

It's name stands aloft in the world,

We are all involved in its progress

Behold our Motherland! Behold!

May the sun of its life for ever shine!

May its soil produce gold for ever!

May the people be for ever happy and may the country forge ahead!

May the State's flower blossom for ever!

I offer both my body and soul for it,

Behold our Motherland! Behold!
